The British curriculum is organized into Key Stages:

In our PRE-KG and KG1 classes, our goal is to help support parents while providing a safe and nurturing learning environment for their children. We aim to provide the foundational skills that children will need to continue their education when they are ready to move on and our teachers are committed to providing age-appropriate programmes that stimulate the cognitive, physical, social, emotional and creative development of each child.
Crown Private School follows the British EYFS or Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for our PRE-KG and KG1 classes which is based on seven areas of learning and development that shape the educational programme.
The seven areas of learning are:
· Communication and language
· Physical development
· Personal, social and emotional development
· Literacy
· Mathematics
All areas of learning are important and interconnected and there are three prime areas of learning that are particularly crucial for igniting children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, and for building their capacity to form relationships and thrive. These three prime areas are communication and language, physical development and personal, social and emotional development. In addition, children are supported to develop in the four specific areas of literacy, mathematics, understanding of the world together with expressive arts and design.
Children in our PRE-KG and KG 1 classes learn mostly through games and play and assessment of learning is gathered through daily classroom observations based on the early learning goals which can be found in the early years' foundation stage framework.
Our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) programme is topic-based and designed to promote language development, literacy and pre-reading skills through the Song of Sounds phonics programme and a range of literacy activities. Song of Sounds is a systematic, synthetic phonics programme that runs from EYFS to Year 2. The programme teaches children to read and write by introducing them to the sounds that they can hear in words (phonemes) and their written equivalent (graphemes).
Math concepts such as sorting, counting and problem-solving are introduced through active learning games and activities that enable students to learn through investigation. Children learn to count and understand the value of numbers including concepts such as higher and lower. Children also learn essential skills of Shape, Space and Measure which support their understanding of the size, weight, capacity, position, distance, time and money. They are taught how to compare quantities, objects and solve problems through active learning and investigation.
In the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) children will start to gain the Science knowledge that they will build on through their primary schools years such as developing their skills of observation, prediction, critical thinking and discussion.
We also incorporate Islamic and Arabic languages in our weekly lessons.
Every day our kindergarten classes have designated times for small learning groups. During these times children can receive more focused attention from the teacher to support their individual development and help children complete tasks and activities progress is tracked continually through ‘Development Matters’ a document which outlines the key developmental milestones that young children should achieve across each of the key areas of learning within defined age bands from birth to five years of age. We provide a continuous Learning Journey for our KG1 students and when each child has achieved the early learning goals they commence the British curriculum for Year 1 (CPS KG2).
Key Stage 1 relates to children aged 5-7 years. Key Stage 2 relates to children aged 7-11 years. In the first term of Year 1 (KG2) our curriculum is based on a mixture of the Early Years Foundation Stage and the National curriculum as children transition from Reception (KG1) to Year 1 (KG2). Areas of study include phonics, English, Maths and Science as core subjects. In addition, children have lessons in Arabic, Islamic, Social Studies, Moral Education, ICT, PE, Music and Art. Your child’s education is of utmost importance to us and we have planned our curriculum to ensure that each year our students build on the skills learnt from the year before. Our teachers are highly qualified and we have a good balance of EYFS, primary and specialist teachers.
Our mission at CPS is to pursue academic excellence through an inquiry-based approach that encourages curiosity and creativity within a caring and inspirational learning environment. The British curriculum emphasizes the education of the whole child and our teaching style focuses on developing the students’ ability to think critically and ask questions. In the lower primary years, the children learn through engaging in practical hands-on activities that cater for the differing learning styles of our learners. The British teaching style ensures that students actively participate and engage in lessons, and develop personally as well as academically. Class sizes are small and taught by expert staff, with many classes also enjoying the help of teaching assistants which enables personalized learning. Our students are warmly welcomed and settle in quickly, and the teachers ensure that all our students feel safe and happy. A well-resourced library helps children develop a love of reading and children regularly take part in small group guided reading lessons to develop reading comprehension skills. The British teaching style ensures that students actively participate and engage in lessons, and develop personally as well as academically. The primary school teachers at Crown Private School are well trained and enthusiastic teachers with experience in delivering the British curriculum. Crown staff are almost all British-trained and mother-tongue teachers. Our excellent teachers are committed to delivering high-quality lessons and inspiring our students to develop a love of learning.
Key Stage Two consists of 4-year groups: Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 which is split into Lower and Upper Key Stage Two. It is often in Key Stage Two where children start to develop their independence and discover their unique interests.
As our students progress into Key Stage Two our teachers continue to embed a love of reading. Students build on their prior learning to deepen their skills of decoding, comprehension and inference through whole-class reading and guided reading sessions.
In Key Stage Two, students continue to study the core subjects of English, Maths, Science, Arabic, Islamic, Social Studies and ICT as well as Moral Education, Music, Art, Physical Education and Robotics.
Key Stage 3: Years 7, 8 and 9 (CPS Grades 6-8)
In Key Stage 3 students will continue to study across a broad curriculum comprising the core subjects of English, Maths, Science, Arabic A or B, Islamic A or B for Muslim students only, Social Studies, Moral Education, Computing, Music, Physical Education and Robotics.
Key Stage 4: Years 10 and 11 (CPS Grades 9-10)
In Key stage 4, students will study for GCSEs in the core subjects of English, Maths, Science, Arabic, Business Studies and Physical Education.
Key Stage 5: Years 12 and 13 (CPS Grades 11-12)
In Key Stage 5, students will study for the A level examinations and other vocational examinations in preparation for entry to universities and other further educational institutions
Co-Curricular activities
The school offers a rich and varied programme of activities beyond the curriculum. This is an integral part of every child’s learning experience. Just as we celebrate the academic success of our pupils, so too we encourage active participation in the school’s co-curricular programme.
Sport is an integral part of school life for all grades and reflects the holistic education that the school offers. Our new school campus has extensive sports grounds and a large football pitch. There are multiple segregated playgrounds for the different sections of the school with good shading. The KG children have their designated play areas.
Crown Private School will be helping to create a community of sports enthusiasts and facilitate the organisation of fixtures and inter-school tournaments. There is a wide range of clubs and societies on offer both at lunchtime and after school. Clubs include Art, Chess, Computer, Creative Writing, Drama, Film, Photography, and Yearbook.
Music Curriculum
The music curriculum encourages students to listen with concentration and understanding to a range of high-quality live and recorded music as well as experiment with combinations of sound using the interrelated dimensions of music. Students at CPS will be encouraged to sing and to use their voices expressively by singing a variety of modern and traditional songs and rhymes. We have a school choir that performs at various events throughout the school year and during morning assembly.
Crown Private School is a community where members often speak about the special family atmosphere within the school.
In addition to students and staff, parents play a large role in developing that community spirit. A strong parental support network of Parent and Class Representatives exists that regularly meets with the school’s senior management team during coffee mornings and other social events such as the school Feria and the Annual day.
