Crown Private School Pedagogy
Our mission is to inspire learning within a caring, creative and international community, to pursue excellence, and to challenge students to think critically as they prepare for the world beyond.
Our pedagogy as a British curriculum school is collaborative, reflective and inquiry based. Pedagogy means the art of teaching or the different teaching strategies that are used in different ways with different students. Effective pedagogies involve a range of techniques, including whole class and structured group work, guided learning and individual activity. Crown Private School’s pedagogy gives serious consideration to student voice and builds on students’ prior learning and experience. Our teachers focus on developing higher order thinking skills and metacognition which is an awareness and understanding of one’s own thought processes or ‘thinking about thinking’. They make good use of dialogue and questioning in order to stimulate curiosity and innovation in the learners.
Curriculum Overview and Teaching Style
Crown Private School provides a high quality British-style education based upon the framework of the National Curriculum for England. We are also a registered Cambridge Assessment International school. Cambridge education prepares school students for life, helping them develop an informed curiosity and a lasting passion for learning. The school offers a secure and safe environment where children are challenged in order to gain the necessary skills in academic, social, sporting and aesthetic fields. We emphasise the development of the individual but also encourage students to see themselves as valued and productive members of our school and of the wider community.
Active learning is a key component of our pedagogy at CPS. Active learning is an approach that involves actively engaging students with the course materials through discussions, problem solving, case studies, role plays and other methods. Active learning allows students to develop their existing knowledge and understanding in order to achieve deeper levels of understanding. This means that learners are more able to analyse, evaluate and synthesise ideas and thus achieve the higher order skills of Bloom’s Taxonomy. Active learning methodology is the preferred way to transform the traditional teacher centered classroom into the newer student centered approach to teaching and learning.
Our experienced teachers use their professional judgement to select and adapt teaching strategies and resources to suit the individual learning needs of the students and the key aspects of their pedagogy include:
Crown Private School’s pedagogy involves the students and teachers producing work and learning together. The teacher becomes more of a mentor or coach helping students achieve the learning goal. Students also work together and use each other’s skills and expertise to accomplish a set of learning tasks.
